The driver was sweating profusely, acting nervous, and had white powder packed into his left nostril, the Oliver Springs police officer said.
The passenger removed several handfuls of pills from her crotch and a ball of tin foil that contained an orange-colored powder that tested positive for methamphetamine, Oliver Springs Police Department Sgt. Charles Graham said.
Graham arrested the driver, Keith Calloway Cousin, 33, of Johnson City, Tenn., and passenger, Jeanie M. Hawkins, 27, also of Johnson City. They both were charged with several counts related to possessing, selling, or delivering drugs.
In affidavits filed in Anderson County General Sessions Court, Graham said he stopped a black Chrysler on Tri County Boulevard just after 1 p.m. Wednesday for a seat belt violation. He said Cousin, the driver, told him he had snorted a Xanax before leaving Johnson City.
Graham said Hawkins had a short straw in her right rear pants pocket that had residue from what appeared to be crushed pills inside it.
The police sergeant also alleged that Hawkins showed him a pill crusher hidden in the car that had 9.5 Xanax pills, a morphine pill, and half an OxyContin pill.
During a search by a female OSPD officer, more narcotics fell from Hawkins’ crotch, Graham said. He received conflicting stories about who owned the pills and could not determine who they belonged to, so he arrested both Cousin and Hawkins, Graham wrote in the affidavits.
The recovered narcotics allegedly included 10.5 Xanax, two Flexeril, one morphine, 0.5 OxyContin, two Klonopin, three trazodone, and 0.2 grams of meth.
Cousin and Hawkins have each been charged with four counts related to manufacturing, delivering, or selling controlled substances, as well as possession of drug paraphernalia and possessing drugs without a prescription. Cousin has also been charged with driving on a suspended or revoked license. Both have court appearances scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday.
Cousin and Hawkins remained jailed in the Anderson County Detention Facility in Clinton on Tuesday. Their bonds have been set at $150,000.
