Jazmyne Maddox, a freshman at Oak Ridge High School, was named “Youth of the Year” for the Boys and Girls Club. The highest honor a member can receive, this title recognizes outstanding contributions to a member’s family, school, community, and Boys and Girls Club, as well as personal challenges and obstacles to overcome. She was selected to compete against other members for the Tennessee “Youth of the Year” title.

As the “Youth of the Year” for the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Clinch Valley, Maddox is among hundreds of local youth across the country recognized by Boys and Girls Clubs of America for their sound character, leadership skills, and willingness to give back to the community. Jazmyne represented her club in Nashville in March.

Jazmyne has also served as junior staff member at the club. As junior staff member, she assisted club staff with receptionist duties, serving younger members lunch and snack, and ensuring the facility was cleaned and organized. She has also been an active member of the club’s Keystone Leadership Program and has taken part in the College Tour Series.

With the support of her mother, Jazmyne continues to push forward, overcoming obstacles and reaching her goal of attending Clark-Atlanta University that will one day allow her to become a successful pediatric physical therapist.

“When I met Jazmyne four years ago, it was obvious the she was a leader amongst her peers,” said Adam Wilson, club director at the Boys and Girls Club of Oak Ridge. “We are fortunate to have Jazmyne as a club member, volunteer, young leader, and positive role model for our youth.”

For her accomplishment, Jazmyne will receive a $1,000 scholarship from the Boys and Girls Club and additional scholarship funds from the Tennessee Titans.
