The Oak Ridge Fire Department responds to many calls each day and provides a variety of services to residents throughout the city. One of the keys to providing successful services to citizens is having the best plan possible ahead of time, a press release said.
In addition, one of the most important pieces of home fire safety is having a home escape plan, and the Fire Department said it would like to work out a plan ahead of time for residents who have special needs and would need additional assistance evacuating their house in the event of an emergency.
As part of the planning process, the Fire Department can store information about residents who need extra assistance, the press release said.
“Having this information on file allows for earlier notification of responding units of the potential need for assistance in evacuating a residence due to a limitation,” the press release said. “The department also has notification stickers that can be placed on the front of the residence to help alert firefighters of residents needing additional assistance.”
Residents can call the fire department and pass on any information such as specific needs, key box locations and codes, or special features of a residence. If necessary, the Fire Department can schedule a time to come out and familiarize themselves with the residence, assist in developing a fire safety plan, evaluate smoke alarm coverage free of charge, and make recommendations to improve fire safety in the home.
If any resident would like to add their information to the department’s database or schedule a visit, they can contact the Oak Ridge Fire Department at (865) 425-3520.
