The Technology Student Association at Jefferson Middle School received 10 awards in eight events during an annual competition earlier this month, a press release said.
The annual TSA State Competition was March 14-17 in Chattanooga. The JMS team did well in team and individual events, the press release said. The JMS awards included five first-place finishes, four second-place, and one third-place finish.
Members earning first place included:
- Lara Manning—promotional design;
- Max Wildgruber—electrical applications, written;
- Dane Cannon—electrical applications, practical;
- Maggie Dadmun—digital photography; and
- Andrew Brittian, Max Wildgruber, and Dane Cannon—Tech Bowl team.
Finishing in second place were:
- Bill Andress and Ethan Collier—”techno talk”;
- Jacob and Nathan Ferragut—transportation systems;
- Dane Cannon—electrical applications, written; and
- Max Wildgruber—electrical applications, practical.
Maggie Dadmun and Candace Pang earned a third-place finish for medical technical issues.
The press release said TSA is a nonprofit national student organization devoted to technology education for young people.
“TSA takes the study of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) beyond the classroom and gives students the chance to pursue academic challenges among friends with similar goals and interests,” the release said.
TSA’s membership includes more than 180,000 middle and high school students in 2,000 schools across 48 states. Members learn through “exciting technical and practical competitive events, leadership opportunities, and much more.”
The release said the diverse activities make TSA a positive experience for every student. Oak Ridge Schools offer middle school and high school clubs. “Together, members work on competitive events and attend conferences on regional, state and national levels,” the release said.
