Perry Gibson Hockaday

Perry Gibson Hockaday

Perry Gibson Hockaday, 80, went to his Heavenly Home on Feb. 14 from his Solway home after a long battle with multiple illnesses.

Perry was a member of Solway Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa; parents, Alice and Hobson Hockaday; brothers, Leonard and Felix; sisters, Grace Vinson and Mabel Godwin of North Carolina; and son-in-law, Larry Hutcheson.

His survivors include his beloved wife of 61 years, Margaret (Gertie); three daughters, Cassandra Hockaday Hutcheson, Dale Hockaday Bohanan, and Sonya Hockaday Ogle; two devoted sons-in-law, Wayne (Bo) Bohanan and Mark Ogle; four grandchildren, Hayli Bohanan, Dylan Ogle, John Edmonds and Jeremy Edmonds; two great-grandchildren, Anna and Emily Edmonds; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Perry was born in Kipling, N.C., and he graduated from Broadway High School in North Carolina, where he met his high school sweetheart, Gertie.

Perry was an avid lover of all animals and leaves behind his beloved Chihuahua, “Tiki.” He loved the outdoors, but unfortunately was confined to a wheelchair for the last few years of his life. Perry’s hobbies included operating CB radio, gardening, and fishing. He was a machinist at Y-12 for 30 years and, prior to that, was employed at Raytheon in Bristol.

The family would like to express sincere appreciation to Perry’s nurses (PCM), the nurses on the fifth floor at Methodist Medical Center, and the attending physicians, as well as a world of gratitude to friends and neighbors for their constant care and support.

The family received friends Saturday, Feb. 16, at Weatherford Mortuary. The funeral service was held Saturday at Weatherford Mortuary with Rev. Bill Dean and Rev. Randy Griffis officiating. The graveside service was Sunday at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
