Fans who wear pink to Roane State Community College basketball games on Saturday, Feb. 16, will be admitted free and will be supporting a nationwide effort to raise awareness about breast cancer.

The Roane State women play Cleveland State at 5 p.m. in the gym on the college’s main campus in Harriman. The men’s game follows at 7 p.m.

Roane State participates in a Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) initiative called Play 4Kay. The late Kay Yow, legendary former North Carolina State women’s basketball coach, was a past president and founding member of the WBCA.

She died in January 2009 after a long fight with breast cancer. Play 4Kay supports the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, which has raised more than $7 million for cancer research.

Cancer survivors will be admitted free and recognized during halftimes. Arts in Motion dancers and Roane State music students will perform. Roane State’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa honor society will host a bake sale, and children’s activities and face-painting will be available. Fans can also sign up to participate in Relay for Life.
