Jimmy (Jim) Smith

Jimmy (Jim) Smith age 71, of Oak Ridge, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 5, at his home surrounded by his family.

Jim was born July 7, 1941, in Eagan, Tenn., to the late Elmer Gene and Sylvia Geneva Stocks Smith.

Jim was a veteran of the United States Navy and the United States Army. He loved to fish and camp, but most of all he loved watching his granddaughter Brandy Neal play softball. Jim enjoyed listening to his son-in-law sing and watch him perform. Jim also loved just being with and spending time with his family.

Jim is survived by his loving wife Linda Smith; daughter Christy Neal, who took care of him; son-in-law Brian Neal, who was more like a son; granddaughter Brandy Neal, whom he loved more than life itself, she is what he lived for; daughter Denise Shaw and her husband Mike of Georgia; three other grandchildren; sisters Georgia Simmonds and her husband Tyrone, Joyce Bullock, and Wilma Viles; sister-in-law Gaile Cheatwood; a special friend Alex Newberry, whom he thought of as a daughter; a special nephew William Edward Bullock; several nieces and nephews; and his dog Buddy.

The family received friends prior to the service from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, at Weatherford Mortuary. A memorial service was held Monday, Feb. 11, at 8 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home. Military honors were held Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 11 a.m. in the Garden of Valor at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.

The family would like to thank Covenant Hospice and two nurses Billie and Megan as well as Dr. Foust and Dr. Strike.
