Winnie Elizabeth Sexton, 97, of the Solway Community, passed away at NHC in Oak Ridge on Feb. 8.
She was born on Oct. 24, 1915, in Scott County to parents James H. and Elizabeth “Elsa” Kircher Phillips.
Winnie had worked as a secretary with Union Carbide Corporation and a member of Solway Baptist Church. She loved her grandchildren dearly and enjoyed gardening and canning.
She was preceded in death by husband, D.L. “Doc” Sexton; son, James R. (Bobby) Sexton; brothers, Eugene, Hubert, and Crawford Phillips; and sister-in-law, Charity Ellis Phillips.
Her survivors include son, James Sexton, and former daughter-in-law, Cheri Hampton, both of Oak Ridge; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Jamie Sexton; several nieces and nephews; and sisters-in-law, LoRena Phillips and Gereda Phillips of Oneida.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary. The funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with Rev. Robbie Buchanan officiating. The graveside service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
