A Briceville man who claimed to be experiencing withdrawal symptoms admitted strangling his pregnant wife during an argument on Tennessee Hollow Lane on Wednesday, allegedly making her unable to breathe at times and causing her to almost black out, authorities said.
The argument allegedly started at about 9:45 a.m. Wednesday when the woman “called in to work,” according to an affidavit filed in Anderson County General Sessions Court.

The husband, Brandon Lee McMahan, 23, allegedly became upset and tried to leave, but his wife, who said his license was revoked and she needed the car, allegedly placed their child on the trunk of the vehicle, said the affidavit, filed by Anderson County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Bradley Prewitt. The woman claimed her husband moved the car with their child on it, but he said he stopped immediately.
Back inside the home, the wife said, her husband grabbed her by the neck and strangled her inside the front door, on a couch, and in the child’s bedroom, according to the affidavit. He also allegedly threw objects at her, including a child’s plastic drawing table and phone.
The woman, who is reportedly four months pregnant, acknowledged she kicked and struck at her husband while he was strangling her, the affidavit said.
McMahan said he grabbed his wife around the throat after she kicked him in the testicles during the argument, and he admitted strangling her, the affidavit said. He also admitted he broke his wife’s key fob.
Prewitt said the woman’s neck was red and swollen, and there was a red mark on her right arm, which she alleged her husband had twisted. There was also broken furniture in the home.
McMahan told Prewitt he was experiencing withdrawal symptoms, and his wife didn’t understand.
Prewitt determined that McMahan was the primary aggressor and charged him with aggravated assault. McMahan remained jailed early Friday afternoon, and his bond had not been set.
