A Roane County man apparently acted in self-defense when he fatally shot his son once after a dispute on Sunday afternoon at a home on Old Harriman Highway, north of Oak Ridge and west of Oliver Springs, authorities said.
Michael Brown, 36, was dead when deputies arrived at about 4:16 p.m. Sunday, the Roane County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement posted on its website.
Authorities said Michael Brown had driven a vehicle through his father’s garage door and allegedly choked him. The father, Vince Brown, might have used a 9mm handgun during the shooting, authorities said.
Authorities said Michael Brown had a history of drug abuse and had been arrested in October for aggravated domestic violence.
The case is being investigated by the Roane County Sheriff’s Office, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, and the District Attorney General’s office, according to WYSH Radio in Clinton.
