James “Cranor” Elrod, age 94, of Oak Ridge, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 8, at his home.
He was born Nov. 16, 1918, in Alexandria, Tenn., the son of James Cranor Elrod Sr. and Ethel Marler Elrod.
Mr. Elrod retired from Martin Marietta Energy Systems, where he was a mechanical engineer at the X-10 plant. He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church, and he enjoyed playing golf.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Elene Elrod; sons, Jim Elrod and wife Mary Ann of Atlanta, and David Elrod and wife Peggy of Oak Ridge; daughter, Nancy Lynn McCune and husband Jim of Columbia, S.C.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Friday, Jan. 11, from 12 to 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Oak Ridge. The funeral will begin at 1 p.m. with Rev. Tim Borchert officiating and Rev. Ray Lloyd assisting. The burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
