Oak Ridge recycles Christmas trees in January

Posted at 7:46 pm December 28, 2012

Oak Ridge is sponsoring a Christmas tree recycling event on Saturday, Jan. 5, and Saturday, Jan. 12.

Trees can be dropped off between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. at the parking lot at Big Turtle Park off Monterey Road.

A city press release said trees will be accepted any time up to Jan. 15.

“But if you come at the designated times, the Christmas tree that you bring may be exchanged for a sugar maple seedling,” the release said. “Wreaths and garland will be accepted, but brush will not be accepted. Please be sure to remove all tinsel and other decorations.”

For more information, contact the Oak Ridge Recreation and Parks Department at (865) 425-3450 or visit the city’s website at www.oakridgetn.gov.

John, is this open to only city residents or are there other places in the county where people can recycle their trees?

Good question. I’m not sure, but I’ll see what I can find out. It may be Wednesday before I can get an answer though.

David, the Little Ponderosa Zoo in Clinton is apparently accepting live Christmas trees for their animals. There’s a short story about it on WYSH: http://www.wyshradio.com/local_news.html. Here’s a link to the Little Ponderosa Zoo website: http://www.littleponderosazoo.com/
