Four people have been arrested after two separate robberies in Anderson County on Saturday, one at knifepoint at a store on Lake City Highway and the other at a home on Sulphur Springs Road, authorities said.
The first robbery occurred at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Town Talk Market on Lake City Highway, Anderson County Sheriff Paul White said in a Monday afternoon news release. The suspect allegedly threatened to cut the clerk’s throat, the sheriff said. The clerk said he gave the suspect money from the cash register, and the suspect left the store, an Anderson County Sheriff’s Department incident report said.
The suspect was reportedly accompanied by another man and woman, and witnesses described their older model black Chevrolet sports utility vehicle to deputies. The description was broadcast to all area law enforcement agencies. Investigators also determined the identity of the robbery suspect and broadcast that information as well, White said.
Then, shortly after 8 p.m., deputies responded to a home on Sulphur Springs Road, where a man and woman had reportedly asked to use the telephone.
“Once inside, the man threatened to kill the victim and demanded his wallet,” White said. The victim said the suspect grabbed the wallet out of his back pocket and left the home. It was found later but was allegedly missing $50.
Deputies determined the same suspect was linked to both robberies, White said.
He said the suspects’ vehicle was spotted by deputies at a convenience store in Clinton. With the help of the Clinton Police Department, three people were taken into custody.
The three were charged with an offense related to the robbery: facilitation of a felony. They are Gary Wayne Lowe, 52, of Nashville (a former Clinton resident); and Misty Dawn Gurley, 28, and Brandi Marie (Berry) Bugg, 25, both of Clinton.
Bugg was also charged with violation of pretrial release, the press release said. Lowe is on parole after serving time in prison. Bond has not been set for the three pending arraignments.
White said the actual suspect in both robberies, Curtis Lynn Lowe, 35, of Clinton, was not with the other three when they were taken into custody, and authorities were not able to find him after an extensive county search.
But on Monday, Anderson County authorities learned that Lowe had been taken into custody by the Knoxville Police Department after an alleged robbery at Walgreen’s on Clinton Highway.
White said Lowe will be held in the Knox County Detention Facility with a hold for Anderson County on the robbery charges as well as other outstanding warrants.
White said Curtis Lynn Lowe has an extensive arrest record in Anderson County.
“Our thanks for the quick work by sheriff’s deputies and investigators in identifying and arresting the suspects in these cases,” White said. “We also wish to thank the Clinton Police Department for their assistance the evening of the robberies and the Knoxville Police Department for the arrest of Curtis Lynn Lowe.”
