Betty Stinnett Quillen Drown

Betty Stinnett Quillen Drown, age 79, of Oak Ridge, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 12, at the Methodist Medical Center.

She was born June 26, 1933, in Alcoa, the daughter of Guy and Katie Bell Stinnett. Mrs. Drown retired in 1991 from the City of Oak Ridge, where she was a switchboard operator and utility clerk for 30 years.

Mrs. Drown was a member of Woodland Park Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 390 and Amaranth, Chapter 26. She had also served as Mother Advisor for the Order of the Rainbow for Girls and served one year as Grand Mother Advisor for the State of Tennessee. Mrs. Drown was an accomplished pianist and played at many functions.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband Frank Drown on March 15, 1997; brothers, Leon Stinnett and his wife Elmira, Wilford Stinnett and his wife Maxsine; sister, Mardell Gibson and her husband Roy, and Edna Abney and her husband, J.T.

She is survived by daughters, Betsy Bridges of Oak Ridge, Teresa Petty and husband Don of Lenoir City, Rowan Murray and husband V. J. of Oliver Springs, and Karen Riddle and husband Mike of Lenoir City; stepchildren, Joe Drown and wife Vickie of Oliver Springs and Christopher Drown and wife Tina of Corning, Calif; grandchildren, A.J. Murray and wife Emily of Oliver Springs, Christopher Atkinson and Corrie Bridges of Oak Ridge; Chad Petty of Loudon, Bradley Petty of Abingdon, Va., Shawn Petty and Matthew Riddle of Lenoir City, Crystalee Fox and husband Cliff of Clinton, and Toshia Howard and husband Shawn of Knoxville; step-grandchildren, Brandi Drown of Chattanooga, David Drown, Jessica Roberts, and Jennifer Marsh, all of Oak Ridge, Anthony Riddle and wife Shirley of Knoxville, Jared Roberts of Raleigh, N.C., Brandon Drown, USAF and Samantha Drown of Corning, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Brady Atkinson and Cole Fox of Clinton, Preston Lee Atkinson of Oak Ridge; step-great-grandchildren, Addison and Alexis Marsh of Oak Ridge; special nieces and nephews, Terry Stinnett and wife Barbara and their children Tammy and Robin of Seymour, Judy Abney, Jama Williams, Jesse Williams and Leonard Stinnett and wife Shirley; and special friend, Ralph McGuff of Irvington, Ala.

The family will receive friends on Friday, Dec. 14, from 5–8 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary. An Eastern Star service will begin at 8 p.m., led by members of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 390. The funeral will follow with Rev. Ronny Jones and Rev. Tim Kimsey officiating.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Anderson Memorial Gardens.
