An Oak Ridge man was arrested Friday after a short police chase and a search that allegedly found seven ounces of cocaine on West Pasadena Lane, close to the city’s high school.
Christopher S. Black, 24, has been charged with possession of drugs in a school zone.
According to Anderson County court records, Oak Ridge Police Officer Benjamin Haines attempted to pull over a Nissan Maxima driven by Black on North Tulane Avenue near St. Stephens Episcopal Church just after 4 p.m. Friday for possible window-tint violations.
After accelerating up to about 40 mph down West Pasadena Lane, Black drove the vehicle through a back yard, where it collided with a tree, Haines said in a court affidavit.
After a short foot chase, Haines said he arrested Black in the front yard of the home.
Haines said he found a plastic grocery bag with seven plastic bags inside containing a total of seven ounces of white powder, consistent with powder cocaine, in a wooded area about 35 feet east of Black’s car, “with a clear line of sight to the vehicle.”
