Officers are searching in Virginia for a suspect in a fatal shooting in Anderson County on Tuesday.
The shooting was reported on Moores Gap Road in Heiskell, east of Clinton near Interstate 75, according to the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office.
Later, a police chase was reported at about 3 p.m. Tuesday in Claiborne County, and it ended in Ewing, Virginia, when the alleged suspect ran into the woods, law enforcement officers said.
“The Lee County (Virginia) Sheriff’s Office continues to aid the Anderson County (Tennessee) Sheriff’s Office; Claiborne County, Tennessee (authorities), and the U.S. Marshals Service in attempting to locate and apprehend fugitive Jason Dockery, a suspect in an Anderson County, Tennessee, homicide and wanted for violations of probation for aggravated assault in Tennessee,” Lee County Sheriff Gary Parsons said in an update provided by the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office.
Other law enforcement agencies involved in the search include the Virginia State Police, National Park Service, Virginia state parks law enforcement rangers, Blount County (Tennessee) Sheriff’s Office, and other agency officers and K-9 teams.
“Officers continue to search areas of interest and respond to tips,” Parsons said. “At present, there is no factual basis to believe the fugitive has left the Ewing, Virginia, area, and citizens are urged to stay vigilant, keep their doors locked and vehicles secured.
“The U.S. Marshals Service is offering up to a $5,000 reward for information which leads to the apprehension of the fugitive.”
The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office is in charge of the investigation, which is still ongoing. All questions about the fugitive and the case should be directed to Anderson County Sheriff Russell Barker, Parsons said.
Barker has asked anyone with relevant information to report it to law enforcement to help with the investigation.
Parsons said the suspect is to be considered armed and extremely dangerous. Any sightings, tips, or information about the suspect’s location can be transmitted to 911, USMS84.TIPS@usdoj gov, or the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at (276) 346-7777.
More information will be added as it becomes available.
