ADFAC will host “The Starry Night,†their ninth annual Bill Wilcox Bow Tie Event, in Oak Ridge on Saturday, October 23.
The fundraising event will honor this year’s award recipient, Jim Dodson, and feature music by local band The Missing Goats, a press release said.
“This self described ‘pub band’ features members Tom Beehan, Mary Tuskan, and Steve Reddick as well as guest player Gary Coleman with a repertoire including Irish, Scottish, bluegrass and Appalachian songs,” the press release said. “Band members have a love for Ireland so much so that they have travelled to Ireland for concerts (and a little travel fun along the way) and performed at many local St. Patrick’s Day activities.”
The band has performed since February 2018 at a variety of local venues, churches, festivals, and nonprofit fundraising events and even hosted several virtual and outdoor concerts during the pandemic, including the 2020 ADFAC Bow Tie Drive By, the press release said.
“We are so pleased The Missing Goats have joined us again for a repeat performance for the Bow Tie event,†said Wendie Aurin, ADFAC’s Bow Tie chair. “Their love of music and community make them a perfect fit for our event and it’s extra special as Jim Dodson is a big fan of this band!â€

Additionally, guests are strongly encouraged to wear masks when not eating or drinking, the press release said.
This year’s event is presented by MCLinc and sponsored by ORUD, Estate Sale Professionals, TNBank, Wendie Aurin – Realty Executive Associates, Fox Willis Burnette, PLLC, Bill and Carroll Welch, the Wilcox Family, and all the previous Bow Tie recipients. With additional essential support provided by Leidos, BBB-TV, DoubleTree, and Trish Polfus.
Aid to Distressed Families of Appalachian Counties (ADFAC) began in the mid 1980s as a local ecumenical effort to provide assistance to impoverished families. As the broad needs of the low-income community became evident, the faith-based collaborative moved to become a 501(c)(3) public charity in January 1987, the press release said.
“Over the years, ADFAC has honored its roots by developing a broad variety of programs designed to meet unfilled needs in the community and currently answers over 6,000 requests for assistance each year,” the release said.
This press release was submitted by Annie Cacheiro of ADFAC.
