The Oak Ridge Civic Music Association will continue the celebration of its 75th anniversary season by presenting the Oak Ridge Chorus in “GLORIA!” on Saturday, December 7.
The concert is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, which is at 212 North Tulane Avenue in Oak Ridge. Tickets are available at ORCMA.org, by phone at (865) 483-5569, at The Ferrell Shop, or at the door. Prices are $15 for adults, $5 for young adults ages 19-29, and free for youth 18 and younger through the Penny4Arts initiative. An extended Cyber Monday sale waives fees for online purchases, a press release said.
The performance of John Rutter’s Gloria is scored for chorus with organ, timpani, and an octet of brass players.
“Thanks to our affiliation with the Oak Ridge Symphony, musicians from the ranks of the orchestra will fulfil those roles, with St. Stephen’s Music Director Simon Ballintoy as our organist,†said Choral Director Seth O’Kegley.
The concert will also include a variety of holiday songs, and the audience is invited to join in a sing-along that includes the Hanukkah Dreidel Song, White Christmas, and more, the press release said.
“Our wonderful vocal soloists for the evening include chorus members soprano Amanda Pendley, soprano Doris Prater, alto Gina Godoy, and alto Betsy Spooner, and of course our fabulous Chorus Accompanist Melony Dodson will play the piano,†O’Kegley said.
“We’re especially excited to announce that Santa will make a quick appearance at the concert!†said ORCMA Executive Director Lisa Muci Eckhoff. “We were notified only last week that Santa’s schedule was compatible with ours, so he will bring holiday cheer and conduct the chorus on Sleigh Ride!â€
Another special activity will be the presence of Violettes by Becky, on site selling artsy music gifts for the holidays. A portion of the proceeds will support the Oak Ridge Civic Music Association.
Presented by the Oak Ridge Civic Music Association, the Oak Ridge Chorus performs two times per season as a stand-alone ensemble—this season on December 7, 2019, and again on February 29, 2020, in LEAP YEAR & LIGHT OPERA. The Chorus will also join the Oak Ridge Symphony Orchestra again on the season finale concert, NATIVE LANDS, on May 2, 2020. A money-saving, ½-season subscription to the Oak Ridge Symphony Orchestra, Chorus and Chamber Music Series is available by calling the ORCMA office at (865) 483-5569 or emailing [email protected].
In the press release, the Oak Ridge Civic Music Association thanked the Tennessee Arts Commission, WUOT 91.9 FM, Chuck Darling, Penny Lukin, Betsy Spooner, and numerous advertisers and individual donors for support of the Oak Ridge Chorus. The purchase of Tennessee Specialty License Plates also funds arts programming throughout the state, including ORCMA’s programming. Information may be found at tnspecialtyplates.org.
More information will be added as it becomes available.
