It’s new at Roane State: a winter term with numerous online classes that can help boost grade point averages or enable students to finish college faster.
Classes ranging from American Government to Microbiology will be offered during the four-week program, a press release said. College officials touting the offering describe it as a way to “Succeed Ahead of Schedule.”
Registration for the innovative program is from November 11 through December 5, and the classes will run from December 16 through January 16, with two days off for both the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.
Roane State students were polled to see if they might want to enroll in a winter term, and many expressed an interest, said Diane Ward, the college’s vice president for student learning.
The winter term could be used to retake a course, improve grade point averages, lighten future course loads, or complete studies earlier, the press release said.
Students can use the term as part of either the fall or spring semester. Picking the fall semester is helpful for those wanting to increase their grade point average, while spring semester is more likely to have financial aid eligibility and is more suitable for most students, the press release said.
Those with an academic adviser can obtain counseling and a personal identification number, or PIN. The One Stop can answer financial aid questions, the press release said.
The winter term ends the week before Roane State’s spring semester starts, Ward said.
Current Roane state students can contact their success coach to get started. The registration PIN after fall semester will remain the same.
