The Oak Ridge Community Band is inviting the public and all area veterans to come to its “Veterans Salute” concert this Sunday afternoon, 3:30 p.m., at the Oak Ridge High School Performing Arts Center, a press release said.

The program will be a tribute to veterans for their service to the country and a recognition of all veterans in attendance at this concert, the press release said.

“The public is encouraged to bring family and friends and take this opportunity to show your appreciation for our veterans,” the release said.

In accordance with the Community Band’s new policy for its indoor concerts, there is no admission fee.

In addition to the recognition of veterans at this concert, ORCB will perform music in their honor. Band director Shaun Salem has selected an entertaining program that includes Tom Knox’s “Armed Forces Medley” featuring the theme songs for each military branch, John Philip Sousa’s “The Stars and Stripes Forever,” and Shaun Salem’s “Indivisible!” the press release said.

ORCB will also perform Clare Grundman’s “The Blue and Gray” with “Kingdom Coming,” “Marching through Georgia,” “Tenting Tonight,” “The Yellow Rose of Texas,” “Aura Lee,” and “The Battle Hymn of the Republic.” Other songs on the program will be Paul Yoder’s “Avalanche,” Sam Nestico’s arrangement of “Salute to American Jazz,” and James Curnow’s “Appalachian Dances” featuring “Haste to the Wedding,” “Cherry Tree,” and “Soldier’s Joy.”

The Oak Ridge Community Band is directed by Shaun Salem and will begin rehearsals on Thursday, November 7, for the December 19 Christmas Concert. Any interested area musician who would like to join ORCB can call (865) 202-2773 for more information. The public can also visit www.orcb.org and follow ORCB on Facebook at www.facebook/OakRidgeCommunityBand.

More information will be added as it becomes available.
