The man who died in an aircraft crash along Smith Road east of Oliver Springs Airport on Saturday has been identified as Patrick Scott Lucas, 45, of Morristown.
Family members have been notified, the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office said.
The Federal Aviation Administration will start a crash investigation today (Sunday, July 14), said Tyler Mayes, director of administrative services for the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office.
The aircraft has been described as a hang glider or a light sport aircraft. It’s reported to have been motorized, although that hasn’t been independently confirmed. It’s not clear where the flight originated, whether the aircraft was based at Oliver Springs Airport, or what time the crash occurred.
The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the crash after 5 p.m. Saturday. Besides the ACSO, the Marlow Volunteer Fire Department, Anderson County Emergency Medical Services, and the medical examiner also responded.
The crash was reported in or near a field.
