Note: This story was updated at 12:30 p.m. Sept. 19.

At least one person was injured after a vehicle crashed into the Maytag Laundry near South Illinois Avenue in central Oak Ridge on Tuesday.

The crash was reported at the Tulsa Road business around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. The cause of the crash wasn’t immediately clear. It also wasn’t clear if more than one person was injured.

The man who was injured was transported from the crash in an ambulance.

At least two vehicles, a car and a commercial-type work pickup truck, appeared to have damage, with the car having more extensive damage, particularly to its front end. The left front end of the car was flush with a brick column in front of the laundromat as police investigated Tuesday evening.

A window in the laundromat appeared to be broken, although it wasn’t clear if the car had crashed into it.

The Oak Ridge Police Department, Oak Ridge Fire Department, and Anderson County EMS all responded to the crash.

A section of the laundromat where the window had been was boarded up Wednesday morning, and the front doors were locked.

More information will be added as it becomes available.

There seems to be no end to the number of incidents in Oak Ridge of people driving their cars into storefronts.

I believe there’s at least one incident per year. Is this unusual for a city our size?
