The Seventh Judicial District Crime Task Force has named a new director after the former director was elected Anderson County sheriff.

Russell Barker had previously been the director, but he was elected sheriff on August 2.

On Tuesday, Anderson County’s law enforcement leaders, acting as the Board of Directors of the Seventh Judicial District Crime Task Force, named Simon Byrne as director, District Attorney General Dave Clark said.

The Crime Task Force is an independent law enforcement agency created by Anderson County’s cities, the Anderson County Sheriff’s Department, and Clark. The CTF primarily investigates drug and violent crimes.

Byrne served in the U.S. Marine Corps and has been a law enforcement officer with the Oak Ridge Police Department and Anderson County Sheriff’s Department, as well as an agent and then deputy director of the CTF. Byrne has completed his bachelor’s degree and is currently pursuing a master’s degree, Clark said.

More information will be added as it becomes available.
