Items from the American Museum of Science and Energy on South Tulane Avenue will be available for sale from September 6-8.
That museum location closed in July as officials move the museum to a renovated building at Main Street Oak Ridge, the redevelopment of the former Oak Ridge Mall. The new museum is expected to open in October.
The public property sale in September was announced Thursday by the U.S. Department of Energy Integrated Support Center—Oak Ridge and the American Museum of Science and Energy Foundation. The sale will take place September 6-8 at 300 South Tulane Avenue, the AMSE facility on Tulane Avenue.
The public sale will only include items that have no historic value or significance as it relates to National Historic Preservation Act requirements, which DOE follows to ensure the long-term preservation of historic artifacts, a press release said.
“DOE and its partners have ensured that those items have been properly retained for use in the new AMSE facility, opening soon at 115 Main Street East, or for other future possible uses,” the release said. “In addition, DOE is working with the Oak Ridge Heritage and Preservation Association to relocate several items from the AMSE Tulane facility’s Historic Room to the Oak Ridge History Museum that opened August 23 and is located at 102 Robertsville Road.
The items for sale will include reproductions of historic photographs, various pieces of furniture, signs, and other items that have been part of the Tulane Avenue AMSE facility, the press release said. These items represent the nostalgia of the AMSE facility and are clearly recognized as having value to the community, the release said.
“DOE and the AMSE Foundation are very excited to offer the Oak Ridge community an opportunity to own items that carry special sentimental value while preserving items of historical significance to be enjoyed for generations to come,” said Jeff deBeauclair, deputy manager of the DOE’s Integrated Support Center in Oak Ridge.
The AMSE Foundation is sponsoring the public sale that will be hosted by Estate Sale Professionals. More information on the sale can be found at https://purplevanpeople.com/event/amse-museum-sale/. Proceeds from the sale will be used to support the operation of AMSE.
