A fire damaged a home in north Oak Ridge on Monday evening. No injuries were reported.
The house fire was reported at about 8:22 p.m. Monday in the 100 block of Gorgas Lane.
When firefighters arrived, they could see flames coming from the rear of the home and the attic, the Oak Ridge Fire Department said in a press release. Firefighters from Engine 2 laid a supply line from the fire hydrant and used two hand lines to quickly extinguish the fire, along with crews from Engines 1 and 3, Tower 10, and Rescue 30, the press release said.
The owner was not home at the time of the fire, which appeared to have been burning for 10 to 12 minutes before it was discovered by a neighbor, the press release said. The owner returned to find the house on fire just as the neighbor was calling 911.
The homeowner was evaluated on the scene by Anderson County EMS, but was not transported, the press release said. A dog and a cat were in the home at the time of the fire. The dog was rescued from the back yard, but the cat was reportedly still missing as of early Tuesday afternoon, the press release said. No other injuries were reported.
Fire and smoke caused extensive damage throughout the home, the press release said. Fire department personnel believe the fire started in a rear bedroom. The cause is still under investigation. No other details are available at this time.
Gorgas Lane is off Georgia Avenue near Outer Drive.
