Evelyn Louise Bonney Hedgecoth

Evelyn Louise Bonney Hedgecoth, 76, of Knoxville, passed away at Parkwest Medical Center, Monday, Oct. 15.

Mrs. Hedgecoth was born on Sept. 2, 1936 in McComb, Miss., and moved to Oak Ridge in 1943.

She is survived by her sister, Patricia Ann Bonney Dunlap Hartman, of Oak Ridge; niece, Denise Dunlap Billings and her husband Tom, of Nashville; nephew, Cleon Smith Hartman II and his three children, April Denise, Tanner Ross, and Reid Austin, of Oak Ridge; and Cleon’s wife, Heather Gibbons Hartman, and her son, Mitchell Harrison Gibbons, of Braselton, Ga.

She was preceded in death by her parents Willie Hester Bonney and Gladys Smith Bonney; her husband of 40 years, Chester Lawrence Hedgecoth; and their daughter, Leslie Ann, who died at birth.

She was a graduate of Oak Ridge High School and Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, where she received a bachelor of science in education. She worked as a human resources supervisor for the Tennessee Department of Welfare for many years.

She served as president of the Cavett Station Chapter of the Tennessee Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, was a member of the Ellen Renshaw House Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and was a longtime volunteer at the Knoxville Zoo.

Funeral services will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Good Samaritan in Knoxville on Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 10:30 a.m. with the Reverends Cal Calhoun and Taylor Dinsmore officiating. Receiving of friends will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. followed by a private burial service.
