Oak Ridge Fire Department firefighters responded to two structure fires early Friday. No one was injured in either fire.
The first fire was reported at 12:42 a.m. Friday at 109 Houston Avenue. When they arrived, Oak Ridge firefighters found a detached garage that was on fire, the City of Oak Ridge said in a press release.
The second fire was reported about three hours later, at around 4:29 a.m. It was a structure fire at 129 Newport Drive.
“Firefighters got the fire under control and are remaining on scene this morning extinguishing hot spots,” the City of Oak Ridge said in a press release Friday.
No one was injured in either fire and all occupants made it out of the home on Newport Drive, the city said.
“ORFD crews showed great strength and stamina during the fires,” ORFD Fire Chief Travis Solomon said. “We would also like to thank Y-12 Fire Department and Oak Ridge National Lab Fire Department for providing mutual aid coverage for the city.”
Oak Ridge Police Department, Electric Department, and Codes Enforcement also helped the Oak Ridge Fire Department, the city said.
“As always, the Oak Ridge Fire Department would like to remind everyone of the importance of working smoke alarms,” the city said. “You can contact the Oak Ridge Fire Department for a free inspection of your smoke alarms at 865-425-FIRE (3473).”
