Lunch with the League on Tuesday will feature candidates for Anderson County chancellor.
It’s scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church at 809 Oak Ridge Turnpike.
Anderson County will have its primary election on March 5. The four candidates for chancellor in the Republican primary will be James W. Brooks Jr. (the incumbent), Daniel Forrester, Evan Hauser, and Roger Miller, a press release said.
Brooks was appointed chancellor in April 2023 by Tennessee Governor Bill Lee after former Chancery Court Judge M. Nichole “Nicki” Cantrell resigned.
The Chancery Court in District 7 serves Anderson County.
The press release said the Trial Court Vacancy Commission previously held a public hearing to interview six candidates for the position, with the four candidates being placed on the ballot for the Republican Primary.
The Anderson County Chancery Court hears cases such as adoptions, orders of protection, child support, child custody, and divorce; all family law matters; and lawsuits and contract disputes. Additionally, the court can hear Criminal Court cases, and the judge can sit at the Circuit Court and hear Juvenile Court appeals.
On Tuesday, chancellor candidates will answer questions sent before the forum. Additional questions from the audience will be gathered by cards at the forum and will be vetted by the League for respectfulness to each candidate and appropriateness to this election, the press release said.
Lunch with the League is presented by the League of Women Voters of Oak Ridge. Everyone is welcome to bring their lunch or purchase a boxed lunch for a nominal fee, the press release said. Coffee and tea will be served.
More information will be added as it becomes available.
