Wind chills below zero are expected through Tuesday night through noon Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service in Morristown.
A wind chill advisory went into effect at 5 p.m. Tuesday and will continue until lunchtime Wednesday.
The low Tuesday night is forecast at 1 degree Fahrenheit, with a wind around 5 miles per hour and wind chill values between -2 and -7.
The high on Wednesday is supposed to be near 28 with wind chill values between -8 and 2.
The cold weather is expected to continue the next few days. The low temperature Wednesday night is forecast at 11, and the low on Friday night could be 7. Wind chill values on Thursday could be between 3 and 13, with a southwest wind between 5 and 10 miles per hour.
The National Weather Service said the cold wind chills could result in hypothermia if precautions are not taken.
“Use caution while traveling outside,” the NWS said. “Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves.”
Re-freezing of untreated roads and surfaces will be expected tonight as temperatures plummet to near zero, forecasters said.
