The Oak Ridge Lady Wildcats soccer team finished the 2019 season with a 3-0 loss to Maryville in a Region 2-AAA semifinal game at home on Tuesday, October 22.

It was the fifth year in a row that the Oak Ridge girls’ team has been eliminated in a regional semifinal game.

The Lady Wildcats also lost to Maryville, 8-1, in a Region 2 semifinal last year.

They were defeated by Farragut in the regional semifinal the previous two years and by Hardin Valley in 2015, according to records posted online by CoachT.com.

The seniors on this year’s Oak Ridge team have contributed significantly to the team the past four years. They were freshmen when the Lady Wildcats won the District 3-AAA soccer championship by upsetting Powell in 2016, and they were seniors when the girls won the District 3 championship this year, on Thursday, October 17. This year’s victory was also over Powell. (Oak Ridge and the Lady Panthers have battled for the district championship each of the past five years.)

After defeating Oak Ridge in the regional semifinal this year, Maryville went on to beat Powell 3-0 in the Region 2 championship on Thursday, October 24, and advanced to a state soccer tournament quarterfinal game in November by defeating Bearden 2-0 in a Class AAA sectional game on Saturday, October 26.

Powell advanced to the Region 2 championship with a victory over Hardin Valley in the other Region 2 semifinal on Tuesday, October 22. That game was tied at 1-1 before going into double overtime, and it was won by Powell 5-4 in penalty kicks. The Lady Panthers were then eliminated 2-1 in a sectional game at Science Hill on Saturday, October 26.

The Oak Ridge seniors were among the players honored with awards in District 3. Maddie Peters was named most valuable player, Katie O’Brien was named attacking player of the year, and Rachael Brewer and Jennie Pont Briant were both named first team all-district.

The Lady Wildcats finished the 2019 season with a 15-5 overall record and a 5-0 record in District 3-AAA, according to the CoachT records.

More information will be added as it becomes available.
