Laura Kopp, former alliance manager for MITRE Corporation (a new ORAU strategic partner), has been named business development and capture manager for ORAU.

In her new role, Kopp will share her extensive expertise in identifying and capturing new large-scale business opportunities; identifying emerging markets, growth opportunities, and new contract vehicles that will help enable growth; and leveraging and growing existing networks to help align new ORAU partners with complementary capabilities, strong federal sponsor relationships, and aligned goals, a press release said.

Initially, Kopp will focus on growing ORAU’s footprint within health and life sciences by targeting new business opportunities, the press release said. She also will serve as the business development liaison for ORAU’s University Partnerships Office.

In addition, she will provide guidance and support as a member of the business development team to the new ORAU/MITRE strategic partnership. This partnership between ORAU and MITRE was recently formed to advance the U.S. science, technology, and management agenda, the press release said. Through it, MITRE will leverage ORAU’s university partnerships to apply research and innovation in science, technology, and public administration to address government mission challenges and management priorities.

“We are thrilled to welcome Laura to ORAU’s business development team,” said ORAU Vice President of Business Development Wanda Gamble. “Her experience leading strategic partnerships will provide ORAU with invaluable knowledge and contacts to continue to expand our business development opportunities.”

Prior to joining ORAU, Kopp served as alliance manager at MITRE, where she managed all aspects of strategic partnerships for MITRE Health. Her background and technical expertise is in the area of organizational strategy and change management with significant experience leading large-scale organizational assessments and change management initiatives for sponsors across the federal government, the press release said.

Prior to MITRE, she worked for both IBM and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Kopp earned a bachelor degree from Vanderbilt University and her master of business administration from the College of William and Mary.
