Helen Louise Sklad: Daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother

Helen Louise Sklad, nee Muniak, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2019, at the Alexander Guest House in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1923 to Joseph and Anna (Prozeck) Muniak. She was one of nine children—John, Joseph, Walter, Louis, her twin sister Mary, Chester, Edward, and Stella. She attended Saint John Cantius Catholic School and graduated from Jane Addams High School. During World War II, she worked at Jack and Heinz Inc., making airplane parts to aid the war effort. In the 1950s, she worked at Sklad’s Grocery Store in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, where, among other things, she ran the soda fountain, and she later worked for the Catholic Cemeteries Association in Cleveland, Ohio.

Her husband Steven Sklad preceded her in death. She is survived by her sister, Stella; son Philip (wife Doris); granddaughter Elizabeth Shoch (husband David); grandson Christopher, and grandson Steven (wife Amanda); and four great-grandchildren, Luisa and Alexander Shoch, and Cameron and Samantha Sklad.

The Sklad family would like to thank the staff of Alexander Assisted Living in Oak Ridge and UT Hospice for the loving care they gave Helen.

The family will receive friends between 4-7 p.m. at Rybicki and Sons Funeral Home in Garfield Heights, Ohio, on Thursday, September 5, 2019. Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Johns Cantius Catholic Church in Cleveland, Ohio, at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 6, 2019, followed by internment at Calvary Cemetery in Cleveland, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Saint Mary Catholic Parish, 327 Vermont Avenue, Oak Ridge, TN 37830, or to your favorite charity.
