Bruce Borchers, superintendent of Oak Ridge Schools, will give an update that covers activities and programs in the school system during a lunchtime meeting on Tuesday.

Borchers will be the featured speaker at Lunch with the League on Tuesday, May 7.

The meeting will be held from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Social Hall of the Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church, which is located at 809 Oak Ridge Turnpike.

The presentation will begin at noon. Lunches will be provided by the Soup Kitchen, and they will be available at 11:30 a.m. on a first-come basis for $8, or you may bring your own, a press release said. Coffee and tea will be provided.

Lunch with the League is a public service program open to the community. Membership in the League of Women Voters is not required, and there is no cost to attend, the press release said.

The press release said Borchers received his bachelor’s degree from Morningside College in Sioux, Iowa; a master’s degree in educational administration from the University of South Dakota; a master’s degree in secondary guidance counseling from Wayne State College; and a doctorate in educational policy and administration from the University of Minnesota.

He taught elementary school and served as a guidance counselor and an interim assistant principal in Iowa, and as principal of Mankato (Minnesota) West High School. From 2008 to 2010, he was associate superintendent of the Anoka-Hennepin secondary schools in Coon Rapids, Minnesota.

Prior to his 2013 appointment as superintendent of schools in Oak Ridge, Borcher was superintendent of the Rockwood (Missouri) School District.  He was selected the 2011 Alumni Educator of the Year for Morningside College, and he is a member of several professional associations, the press release said. Borchers and his wife, Shannon, have two children: Bailey and Jack.

More information will be added as it becomes available.
