Consolidated Nuclear Security, UT-Battelle, and the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce are joining together to host a breakfast in May to honor local business leaders and outstanding small businesses. May is National Small Business Month.
The honorees at the May 7 breakfast will be ARS International LLC, Karen Prillhart, Kelsan, Dustin Mackey, and Stephanie Hale-Smith of State Farm.
The Celebrate Oak Ridge Business awards breakfast will be held from 7:30-9 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, at the Doubletree by Hilton.

There is a $10 charge for the breakfast. In keeping with the theme of celebrating small business, all proceeds will go to the Virtual Business Enterprise program at Oak Ridge High School, a press release said.
CNS will be awarding its Small Business of the Year designation to ARS International LLC, and its Small Business Advocate of the Year is Karen Prillhart. ARS International LLC (ARS) is an Alaskan Native Corporation, Small Disadvantaged Business, and is a wholly owned subsidiary of The Aleut Corporation. Since its inception in 1993, ARS has provided services to the U.S Department of Energy, Department of Defense, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and commercial industries in the form of hazardous material remediation, laboratory analysis, and construction/demolition services, the press release said.
“ARS International LLC was challenged with one of Y-12’s unique and complicated requirements,” said Lisa Copeland, CNS Y-12 Small Business Program Manager. “ARS provided a commitment to safety, quality, and project delivery that was well above CNS expectations.”
Oak Ridge National Laboratory will be presenting Kelsan with its Small Business of the Year award and honoring Dustin Mackey as Small Business Advocate of the Year.  Headquartered in Knoxville, Kelsan provides its customers with the region’s largest selection of sanitary maintenance-related products and consistently ranks as the southeast’s leading “Jan-San†distributor.
“Kelsan has been an outstanding and reliable supplier to ORNL for many years, and the company has a reputation for providing innovative products and solutions to meet the needs of the ORNL team,” said Cassandra McGee Stuart, manager of the Small Business Programs at UT-Battelle. “Kelsan staff receive high praise for customer service, and they go above and beyond in their efforts, even developing a green initiative for the use of recycled products.”
Stephanie Hale-Smith of State Farm Insurance will receive the Kerry Trammell Volunteer of the Year Award. The award is named after the late Kerry Trammell, who was a long-time member and volunteer for the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce.
According to Connie Martin, vice president, chief support officer for Covenant Health, and the past-chair of the Chamber’s board of directors, “Stephanie Hale-Smith is a consummate professional who has given countless volunteer hours to ensure the Chamber’s mission is relentlessly pursued, particularly in the area of membership and member value. Under her leadership as membership vice chair, we developed an ambassador program, organized Operation Thank You, and made improvements in our semi-annual networking events, based on member feedback. Her passion for small business ensures that unique perspective is solicited and valued in all our activities.â€
