It’s the fifth Hwy 55 restaurant in Tennessee, and it will add 35 jobs to the Oak Ridge community, the company said in a press release.

Hwy 55 Burgers, Shakes & Fries is an All-American, retro-themed diner, the press release said.

“Located at 441 South Illinois Avenue in Oak Ridge, Hwy 55 will provide residents and visitors with an inviting dining experience featuring fresh, never-frozen burgers, premium sliced cheesesteaks piled high on steamed hoagies, and frozen custard made in-house every day,” the press release said. “With its open-grill design, the kitchen’s dedication and care when handcrafting meals is front and center.”

“For a long time we’ve been wanting to open a restaurant in the Oak Ridge area,” said Ron Christopher, Oak Ridge franchise owner. “We couldn’t be more excited to have finally taken this step, and we truly hope that anyone that comes to our location will leave happier then they were when they walked in. Nothing makes us happier than being able to put a smile on someone’s face that may not be having the best day, or simply making a great day even better.

As part of the master franchise agreement, Hwy 55 is planning to open an additional 45 locations in the Tennessee area in the next seven years, the press release said.

While celebrating its 27th year in business, Hwy 55 has sold the rights to more than 1,000 franchise locations around the world. Hwy 55 has also signed franchise agreements for West Virginia, Louisiana, Kentucky, and southern Indiana and Virginia in the past year, the press release said. The brand plans to open approximately 25 locations in 2018.

“I founded Hwy 55 Burgers, Shakes & Fries more than 25 years ago, to provide something that I felt was missing: great food, friendly service, and honest value,” said Hwy 55 president Kenney Moore, who flipped every burger himself for the brand’s first two years of business. “Those principles continue today at all of our restaurants, and we will look forward to treating more people in Oak Ridge and other areas in this great state in the coming years.”

In keeping with Hwy 55’s continued mission to give back to the communities it enters, Hwy 55’s Andy’s Charitable Foundation will donate 10 percent of sales from the restaurant’s first three days to East Tennessee Children’s Hospital, the press release said. Andy’s Charitable Foundation is Hwy 55’s most visible commitment to community involvement.

Hwy 55 was recently named a top 500 franchise in the United States by Entrepreneur magazine for the second consecutive year, among other honors, according to the press release.

The hours of the Hwy 55 in Oak Ridge are 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m.-10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. For more information, call the restaurant at (980) 613-0537.

Hwy 55 was founded in Goldsboro, North Carolina in 1991. Hwy 55 currently has 139 locations in 13 states, Denmark, and the United Arab Emirates. For more information, visit https://www.hwy55.com.
