The University of Tennessee Arboretum Society offered five reasons to see the Einstein Simplified improvisational comedy group in Oak Ridge on Sunday. It’s a fundraiser for the UT Arboretum Society.

Here are the five reasons to see the show, the UT Arboretum Society said:

  • Come and enjoy the beautiful Arboretum—and laugh!
  • It’s a week before Mother’s Day. Treat mom, your spouse, or significant other. Come celebrate—and laugh!
  • Politics and the political climate are crazy. It’s making us all crazy. Come commiserate—and laugh!
  • Do you appreciate true on-the-spot unrehearsed “improv”? Come see creativity at its best—and laugh!
  • Where else can you go in the area for $30 to watch a live comedy show complete with wine and cheese? That’s right—Einstein Simplified at the UT Arboretum. Come enjoy, celebrate, commiserate—and laugh!

It will be an evening of laughter and live improv, the press release said. It’s scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, May 6, at the UT Arboretum on South Illinois Avenue in Oak Ridge.

“Come join the fun as this well-known Knoxville area comedy improv group entertains us with original, unrehearsed improv,” the press release said. “If you like Second City and Saturday Night Live, this show is for you! Given today’s roller coaster political climate, we expect a very funny show. Don’t miss it!”

Due to popular demand in 2017, the group is returning to the Arboretum for the second year, the press release said. Tickets for the fundraiser are on sale, and they are selling quickly. Due to space limitations, only 90 tickets can be sold, the press release said. All tickets will be sold before the event. There are no walk-up sales.

Various cheeses will be served, a ticket for one glass of wine, and the live show are included in the ticket price. Soft drinks will be provided. A wine tasting cash bar will be offered before, during, and after the show.

To purchase tickets, go to utas2018.bpt.me. Tickets are $30 each plus fees. For information, call (865) 675-3822.

The show and fundraiser will be in the UT Arboretum Auditorium, which is at 901 South Illinois Avenue in Oak Ridge. The gates open at 4:30 Sunday, May 6. Social hour, with drinks and a variety of cheeses, is from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. The show starts promptly at 6 p.m. and will end about 7:00 p.m.

Though the contents of the program are equivalent to a PG rating, this performance is not recommended for children, the press release said.

Einstein has been a Knoxville staple for 24 years, having performed at Side Splitters and, for the past few years, every Tuesday night at Scruffy City Hall (Preservation Pub) in Market Square in Knoxville.

“These comedians are in demand, doing a weekly show and many special appearances,” the press release said. “Last month, they were one of the featured national improv groups at the famous Gatlinburg Improv Fest.”

“Bring your spouse, significant other, friends, and neighbors,” the press release said. “But mostly, bring your sense of humor!”
