Starting September 14, YWCA Knoxville was officially known as YWCA Knoxville and the Tennessee Valley.
The new name better reflects the geographical region that the YWCA now serves, including Oak Ridge and Anderson County, a press release said.
“This name change reflects our current growth and future expansion plans,†says Marigail Mullin, chief executive officer of the YWCA Knoxville and the Tennessee Valley.
In 2015, the YWCA began offering services to victims of domestic violence in Oak Ridge and Anderson County. In early 2017, the former YWCA of Oak Ridge building located at 1660 Oak Ridge Turnpike was acquired by the YWCA Knoxville and the Tennessee Valley, and the building has been in the renovation process ever since with a planned opening date later this year, the press release said.
“The YWCA Knoxville and the Tennessee Valley is on a mission to continue to grow and offer life-changing domestic violence services, transitional housing, and much more to Knox County, Anderson County, and throughout the Tennessee Valley in the years to come,” the press release said.
