Steve Emert, chair of the Anderson County Commission, is running for Anderson County mayor as a Republican in the 2018 election.

Emert has served the last five years as a county commissioner from District 3, which includes Norris and Andersonville. He has been county commission chair for the past two years.

When he was elected to County Commission in 2012, Emert said in a press release, he immediately started furthering his education in every aspect of the local government, and he earned the CPA designation (certified public administrator).

Emert is a longtime local businessman and entrepreneur, the press release said.

“He perseveres when it comes to hard work, ethics, and integrity,” the press release said.

Emert has been a resident of Anderson County for the past 53 years. He is also an active member of Second Baptist Church in Clinton, where he currently serves in the music ministry, on the budget committee, and in local and foreign missions. He formerly served as a trustee and a Sunday school teacher at Second Baptist Church.

In addition to his commission chair seat, Emert also serves on many local government committees, the press release said. He also serves with ASAP (Allies for Substance Abuse Prevention of Anderson County), Retire Tennessee committee, and Anderson County Tourism, and he is an active member of the Anderson County Chamber of Commerce.

“When elected, I intend to restore peace and unity throughout our county and within our local governmental departments,” Emert said in the press release. “It’s vitally important to the well-being of our citizens to progress our county initiatives as a team. It takes everyone in cooperation to run this county, from department heads to each of us as citizens.  Anderson County was once well-respected across the state, and I desire to see that again.”

The press release said Emert has been married for 25 years and has two wonderful children.

“I am definitely a family man and appreciate the relentless support of my family,” Emert said in the press release. “I ask for your vote in 2018 for Anderson County mayor.”

The current Anderson County mayor, Terry Frank, is also a Republican.

Emert is the second candidate to announce he is running in the 2018 election. Anderson County Chief Deputy Mark Lucas recently announced he is running for Anderson County sheriff.

More information will be added as it becomes available.
