Basketball: District tourneys done, focus turns to regions

District basketball tournaments wrapped up on Wednesday. The final championship to be decided was in District 3-A and was played in Tellico Plains, where the Grace Christian boys knocked off Harriman 68-66 to claim the title. Third place went to Tellico Plains, which beat Meigs County 52-44.

That sets up the Region 2-A tournament, which will begin on Friday at 7 p.m. with girls’ action. Here is information about that tournament, as well as the Region 2-AA and Region 2-AAA tournaments.

Region 2-A schedule (girls—all games Friday at 7 p.m.)

  • Coalfield at Meigs County
  • Grace Christian at Sunbright
  • Oneida at Tellico Plains
  • Greenback at Wartburg

Region 2-A schedule (boys—all games Saturday at 7 p.m.)

  • Oakdale at Grace Christian
  • Coalfield at Harriman
  • Meigs County at Jellico
  • Tellico Plains at Wartburg

Region 2-AA schedule (girls—all games Friday at 7 p.m.)

  • CAK at Fulton
  • Scott County at Gatlinburg-Pittman
  • Austin-East at Kingston
  • Carter at Alcoa

Region 2-AA schedule (boys—all games Saturday at 7 p.m.)

  • Union County at Catholic
  • Austin-East at CAK
  • Scott County at Fulton
  • Alcoa at Carter

Here is how the Region 2-AAA girls’ first round sets up (all games Friday at 7 p.m.):

  • Bearden at Oak Ridge
  • Hardin Valley at Powell
  • Anderson County at William Blount
  • Campbell County at Maryville

Here is the Region 2-AAA boys’ schedule (all games Saturday at 7 p.m.):

  • West at Oak Ridge
  • Hardin Valley at Powell
