Oak Ridge Schools are closed Friday due to illness.
More staff members have been reporting that they are ill, and the school system is not able to provide enough substitutes to fill in for teachers, teacher assistants, and transportation and food service workers, Oak Ridge Schools said in a Thursday afternoon statement.
“Due to this lack of available substitutes, we have decided to close school and the school administration on Friday, February 10,” the statement said.
The school system said student learning and safety are its main priorities, and officials have been monitoring the number of students and staff that have been unable to attend school due to illness.
“Our custodial staff have been keeping our schools as clean as possible and will continue to be diligent in their great efforts,” the statement said.
Plans call for resuming school on the regular schedule on Monday, February 13.
Other schools in the area—including in Clinton and Anderson, Knox, and Roane counties—were closed Thursday and will also be closed Friday due to illness. Those schools also plan to re-open Monday.
More information will be added as it becomes available.
