Roane State Community College is reaching out to students affected by the recent closure of ITT Technical Institute.
Roane State will host an information session for former ITT students from 3:30-6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 20, at the college’s Oak Ridge campus, which is at 701 Briarcliff Avenue. The meeting will be in the advising area inside the Coffey-McNally Building.
Former ITT Tech students are also invited to an Open House on Monday, September 26, at the college’s Clinton Higher Education and Workforce Training Facility, which is at 214 Nave Street in Clinton. The event will last from 5-8 p.m. and include demonstrations of equipment used to train students in mechatronics.
Roane State admissions and financial aid staff will be available at the events to answer questions.
“We know this is a challenging moment for ITT Tech students,†said Diane Ward, Roane State vice president for student learning. “What’s most important is that ITT students continue their education and complete their degrees. Roane State has many opportunities that will benefit ITT Tech students, and we want to do anything we can to assist them.â€
Roane State programs such as mechatronics and computer information technology could be good fits for ITT Tech students, a press release said. The college also offers late-start classes for students who may be able to enroll immediately.
“Transfer of credits and financial aid are likely the main concerns for displaced ITT Tech students,†Ward said. “Each situation is unique. Roane State has a lot to offer, and we will gladly help ITT Tech students determine which option is best for them.â€
ITT Tech students are encouraged to visit roanestate.edu/itt for more information or contact Roane State’s advising office at (865) 354-3000 ext. 4257.
