Safety Fest TN scheduled September 12-16

Safety at work, at home, and in the community! Why? Because accidents know no boundaries and safety shouldn’t either. It’s needed everywhere. Once a year, an event is held to promote safer workplaces, home-life, and communities by offering free safety and health classes to everyone. Last year, more than 850 workers from 79 cities in six states registered for the free classes.

For the fifth consecutive year, Safety Fest TN—partnering with numerous public, private, government, and nonprofit organizations—will host a week of safety and health classes, live demonstrations, a Safety Expo, and a community safety forum, all free of charge to everyone who registers. The event is scheduled for September 12-16 with classes in multiple locations in Oak Ridge and Knoxville.

“This year’s Safety Fest TN is popping at the seams, we’ve got something for everyone,” said Jenny Freeman, chair of the planning committee which is responsible for organizing the event and a community safety brunch.

One of the main events is a community safety forum with Joe Estey, a nationally known safety specialist, who brings human performance solutions to safety challenges facing some of our country’s highest-hazard and most complex industries.

“We have over 60 free classes, sessions, and demonstrations for Safety Fest TN 2016” said Michelle Keever, the event’s class coordinator. “This year, it’s an incredibly broad spectrum of subjects—chainsaw safety, electrical safety, human performance, mold and microbial investigation, scaffolding safety, and so much more.”

Want to learn CPR or recertify CPR training? Safety Fest TN will offer several CPR classes, and they fill up rapidly. Some classes will also be held in the evening in Spanish, at one or more locations.

Safety Fest TN will also host an annual favorite called World Class Safety, which features representatives from manufacturers who share information about their safety programs.

“This session is an incredible opportunity to discover and take home real-world safety practices implemented at some of the safest and most successful companies in Tennessee,” said J.J. Rochelle, who coordinates the session in partnership with Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration (TOSHA).

Classes start on September 12, but Safety Fest TN really gets rolling at 9 a.m. September 13 with the community safety forum.

“It’s going to be a big year, and we appreciate all of the partners, sponsors, and providers that make Safety Fest TN possible,” said Dave Neubauer. “Their contributions keep the event free of charge to everyone who registers for a class.”
