Kenneth R. Tarcza has been named manager at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge Office Integrated Support Center.
The announcement was made Tuesday by DOE’s Office of Science.
Prior to retiring in 2015 as a colonel with the U.S. Army, Tarcza served as the chief of staff for the U.S. Army Research, Development, and Engineering Command, which executes the vast majority of the Army’s science and technology programs, a press release said. In that role, he was responsible for a broad range of functions—administration, finance, safety, legal, and resource management.
Most recently, he served with the U.S. Army Research Laboratory at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, where he oversaw research on site as well as with academia.
“Ken brings to the table an impressive portfolio of qualifications,” said Joseph A. McBrearty, deputy director for field operations at DOE’s Office of Science. “We welcome his perspective and expertise in leading the Oak Ridge Office.”
As the manager of the Oak Ridge Integrated Support Center, Tarcza oversees a cadre of subject matter experts providing critical mission support services across the DOE Office of Science field sites in personnel, finance, budget, procurement, legal, security, and emergency management, and employee health and safety. He is also responsible for management of the 32,000-acre Oak Ridge Reservation, the press release said.
Earning his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the United States Military Academy, he later received his master’s degree in mechanical engineering and doctorate in mechanical engineering/materials degrees from the University of Texas at Austin.
