Sherith Colverson, senior planner for the City of Oak Ridge, will discuss the changing demographics of Oak Ridge at the Women’s Interfaith Dialogue meeting on Monday, November 2, at 11 a.m. The program will be held in the social hall of Grace Covenant Church, Trinity Center, 320 Robertsville Road.

Colverson will focus on the historical and current demographics of the city, a press release said. In a synopsis of her presentation, she said that these demographics tell the story of how Oak Ridge has changed, “both in form and function, throughout the past seven-and-a-half decades.”

She will also discuss how the city’s current demographics can help shape the future of our neighborhoods.  Colverson said she is also very interested in ideas of how to gain more involvement from all citizens in the future social and structural development of the city.

Colverson is a native of Athens, Tennessee, and she has lived in Oak Ridge since 2009. Before recently joining the city government, she was involved in consulting for local governments and environmental firms as the principal planner for Ridge to Valley Consulting. This background and experience in community development and outreach led her into volunteer and community leadership roles in organizations such as Community Mediation Services of Anderson County, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of the Tennessee Heartland, and the East Tennessee Economic Council.

She holds an undergraduate degree in environmental science from Florida Gulf Coast University and received her graduate degree from the University of Florida, Gainesville. She lives in a modified “B” cemesto home with her husband, Colin, and two-year-old son, Everett.

Parking is available in the upper parking level at Trinity Center. Handicapped parking is available in the parking lot on the lower level.

The program is free and open to the public. Donations are welcome.

The Women’s Interfaith Dialogue brings together women of diverse faith, color, and culture to explore, understand, and learn from one another for the purpose of advancing justice, compassion, friendship, and human rights with a focus on women and children.

More information will be added as it becomes available.
