Clinton snapped its three-game losing streak on Friday at Lenoir City in a 49-14 win. The Dragons were led by the 391 passing yards and six touchdowns of quarterback Tyler Thackerson.
The Dragons defense was stout as well, forcing five Panther turnovers, all of which were turned into touchdowns for Clinton (3-3, 2-2).
DeMarea Whitt caught seven passes for 139 yards and three touchdowns and also intercepted two passes, returning one to the Lenoir City five-yard line that set up Isaiah Vibbert’s scoring run.
J’Quan Thomas had eight catches for 169 yards and two long touchdowns of his own.
Thackerson was 22-of-29 passing, and he did most of his damage on short screens or underneath passes that his playmakers turned into long scoring plays.
S.J. Powers also had a touchdown grab for CHS.
Thomas intercepted a pass on defense as well.
Clinton outgained Lenoir City 505-205 for the game and the much-maligned defense was aggressive and fast to the ball all night long.
The win secured a playoff berth for the Dragons for the second straight year. That’s the first time that has happened since the 2008 and 2009 seasons.
