On Friday night, the Campbell County Cougars spoiled Homecoming at Clinton High School by outlasting the Dragons 41-35 in overtime.

Josh Lay was impressive for the Cougars (3-2, 2-0 in Region 3-5A), rushing for 301 yards and three touchdowns—including the game-winner in OT—on 45 carries and throwing for three scores on 14-of-28 passing for 234 yards.

Tyler Thackerson went 25-of-38 passing for 293 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions, while also rushing for two scores and 80 yards.

J’Quan Thomas was impressive in his return from a cracked collarbone, catching 11 passes for 114 yards and both of Thackerson’s touchdowns.

The officiating did not help the Dragons at all as the crew blatantly missed what should have been an incomplete pass on a Cougar touchdown and what should have been ruled an incomplete pass on Campbell County’s second interception late in the fourth quarter.

Clinton fell to 2-3, 1-2 with the loss.
