Hank's Market Grocery Store

Hank’s Market grocery store plans to open at the former Food Lion in Oak Ridge by August 25.

Hank’s Market grocery store plans to open at the former Food Lion in east Oak Ridge by August 25.

Hank’s Market #45 will be at 691 Emory Valley Road.

The company has responded to several queries from local residents on its Facebook page. Here’s one response:

Our Oak Ridge store is scheduled to open later next month (August). We are hoping to have the doors open on the 25th of August.”

Food Lion confirmed its plans to close its Oak Ridge store in June 2014. The company said it was not renewing its lease on the property.

In a flyer posted at the Oak Ridge store on Sunday, July 19, Hank’s said it is accepting applications.

Meanwhile, the spaces where Curves and Briarcliff Realty used to be next to Food Lion appear to be under renovation also, although it’s not clear what is planned there.

Curves has moved to Ridgeway Center behind Security Square, and The Real Estate Office, which was formerly Briarcliff Realty, has moved to a new location inside the Citizens First Bank building on Oak Ridge Turnpike.

More information will be added as it becomes available.

John, I am not 100 per cent certain, but I believe the two adjoining spaces under renovation will be part of Hank’s.

Thank you, Philip. As you can see in the picture above, It does look like they are increasing the size of that space, possibly doubling it.

Philip, Goodwill says they are moving to Emory Valley Road. They don’t have a grand opening date yet, but they hope to open this fall.

The east end lost Food Lion because they did not support it. I hope that will not be the case with Hank’s, but we shall see.

I know there are east Oak Ridge residents who are looking forward to having a grocery store there again.

The east end supported Food Lion very well. I for one was there at least three days a week.

The store closed solely for corporate reasons. Food Lion announced in 2012 that they intended to close 113 stores. As was the case in Oak Ridge, many of the stores closed at the end of its lease period. Their parent company, Delhaize, has been divesting itself of a significant number of assets for some time. Delaize was purchased by Ahold earlier this year.

Ahold owned the Bi-Lo/Red Food store in Oak Ridge before selling that store and several others to Food City,

Perhaps it was closed for corporate reasons but I was in there a number of times when there were only one or two other customers in sight.,several times when there were none. A business usually does not close if they are returning a decent profit. Just my view. BTW, thanks for your many efforts to bring more retail to OR.
