Part of the roof collapsed into the kitchen at The Other One on Tuesday, and the restaurant is temporarily closed while repairs are made. But a food truck will offer a limited menu outside on Thursday.
The popular mom-and-pop burger and sandwich shop at Grove Center is owned and operated by Amanda Caldwell and Jimmy Long.
Early Wednesday afternoon, Caldwell said The Other One, which has been open for five years, could be closed for up to one week.
She said a section of the original roof estimated to be about two feet by three feet collapsed at about 5:50 p.m. Tuesday after a day of heavy rain and thunderstorms. No one was hurt, although two employees were in the kitchen at the time and the restaurant had to close, Caldwell said.
Later Wednesday, Caldwell said the roof had been patched.
She said no equipment was damaged, but the partial roof collapse will move up their plans to revitalize the kitchen. She urged customers to watch the restaurant’s Facebook page for updates.
On Wednesday afternoon, Caldwell said Terry and Leisa Hope of Secret City Pies at Security Square are loaning a food truck to The Other One so they can continue to have some income during the kitchen renovations.
“While we are down inside, we will have the food truck up and running a limited menu in the parking lot,” The Other One reported in a status update on Facebook. “We will only be open during the day for your burger fix…We will let you know more when we do…thank you all for the outpouring of love and support!”
Caldwell said the seating area in the main dining room is fine, and outside seating is available.
“We will keep everybody posted on when the re-open will happen,” she said. “We are hiring currently and when we re-open, we will be open seven days a week at 8 a.m. for breakfast and increase our Sunday evening hours until 9 p.m.! Good things will come out of this!”
Caldwell said The Other One, which recently expanded, is still available for catering.
More information will be added as it becomes available.
