A Friday fundraiser will benefit the Emory Valley Center’s Capital Campaign. Proceeds will benefit the ongoing campaign for a new building to better serve children and adults with disabilities in the community, a press release said.

The Knights of Columbus and St. Mary’s “Spring Love and Laughter” fundraiser is scheduled from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, April 24, in the St. Mary’s Church Gym. It will feature a full-course meal prepared by the organizations.

Tickets have sold quickly, but there are still some available for purchase for $40 each or $70 for two, the press release said. Attendees will be served their buffet-style meal by youth of St. Mary’s Church, laugh with featured inspirational speaker and professional comedian Derrick Michael Tennant, and have the opportunity to participate in a silent auction.

The release said Tennant is a big supporter of nonprofit fundraising events for a variety of organizations.

“He is very excited to share his comedy and touching stories to help Emory Valley Center raise funds for their Capital Campaign for a new building,” the release said.

Some of the silent auction items donated by local supporters and friends include a variety of original art items, restaurant certificates, rounds of golf, certificates for massages, several “themed” baskets and items—such as “Family Fun,” “Gourmet Cupcake,” “UT Tailgate,” “Mexican Fiesta,” “Garden Wonders,” and more! The event is casual, so plan to come after work and bring your family, friends, and colleagues.

“Emory Valley Center is very excited to celebrate spring with ‘Love and Laughter,’ and everyone is looking forward to a great evening supporting a wonderful mission,” said Jennifer Enderson, Emory Valley Center president.

Emory Valley Center has been meeting the needs of people with disabilities in the community for 60 years. The facility currently provides a comprehensive array of educational, vocational, residential and rehabilitation services, programs, and support, reaching 850 adults and children with developmental, intellectual, and physical disabilities located in 16 East Tennessee counties.
