A Tuesday night fire on Bland Road in Anderson County apparently started in a kitchen microwave, authorities said.
The fire was reported at about 9 p.m. Tuesday, and the Andersonville Volunteer Fire Department responded.
Anderson County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Michael A. Poole said he saw smoke pouring out of the front door of the home when he arrived, but no visible flames. Firefighters were already inside trying to extinguish the fire.
Homeowner Wilbur Wheeler Jr. said he had been outside the home with his dogs when he heard a popping sound from inside, Poole said in an incident report. Wheeler said he opened the front door and saw flames and heavy smoke coming from the kitchen area. He called 911.
AVFD Fire Chief Del Kennedy told Poole that he thought the fire started in the microwave. Kennedy said he saw nothing suspicious about the fire, Poole said.
Bland Road is west of North Charles G. Seivers Boulevard southwest of Anderson County High School.
